CHAPTER SIX

luigi takes on a new identity, and The new chiarello speakeasy opens for business

It was Friday and spring, and the streets were buzzing with shoppers and others just taking a stroll down the sidewalk enjoying the warmer weather.

Charlie had an appointment to go over some last-minute details with the agency and to fill them in on where Chief Anderson was on the new speakeasy plans.

The last few weeks had gone so quickly, no one was really ready for the grand opening at all. When Charlie walked in the office an hour early, Luigi was just walking back into the hallway towards the conference area, when Charlie asked Rosie who the man was? She answered, “Maintenance man.”

“Oh, I suppose this old building needs one, I know my new building is going to need one too, it’s as old as this place. I’ll have to ask Cliff about that!” he replied and said, “Thanks, doll face!”

Rosie mentioned that it was okay for Charlie to go back to the conference room, he’d been there before! He went in and made himself at home by pouring himself a drink from Skye’s excellent stock; he knew where the key was kept and grabbed a snack too.

“Well, Good morning, Charlie, please make yourself at home!” Cliff laughed, and Charlie nearly choked on his food.

Skye walked in a few minutes later, and Charlie informed them his grand opening was tomorrow night, and he expected both of them to be there and to bring friends too. He needed the business. Not the money so much as people to send a message that he was going to succeed there too. He also wanted them to come early so he could show off the new factory above the speakeasy.

“Oh, by the way, Cliff and Skye, no work this weekend. Please come to relax and hear the music. By the way, I know every single person personally that is going to be there except for special guests of good friends. It will be safe, I promise. I have a troop of security men on duty.”

“Sounds good, Charlie, we’ll bring another couple we met some time back, they’re clean and trust-worthy. So, see you on Saturday!” Cliff smiled, and Charlie gave him a big handshake.

No sooner than Charlie left the building, Cliff told Rosie they wished not to be disturbed, to close up for the day when she was done.

Cliff locked the door leading to the hallway towards the conference room and, therefore, closing off that section of the building for the rest of the day. It was Friday afternoon, and Saturday was going to be a very big day.

Cliff called upstairs for Luigi and Marti. Skye had remained seated, waiting on the rest of the gang. When everyone showed up and was sitting at the conference table, Cliff poured a round of drinks.

Cliff stood up at the end of the oval conference table, held his glass high up in the air, and made an announcement.

“Ladies and Gentleman, I am pleased to introduce you to Lewis Lombardo, he is formerly known as Luigi Romano.
